Red Bay Designs is named for the red clay in the spectacular Bay of Fundy Nova Scotia. The studio is located near Burntcoat Head on the Bay of Fundy shore. Burntcoat Head is the home of the world’s highest recorded tides.
Our name also pays respect to the person who first taught us the traditional art of moccasin making. She was a nurse at the Grenfell Mission Hospital on the south coast of Labrador and she was taught by an Inuit elder from Red Bay. So, the tradition of handcrafted moccasins has been passed down to the next generation and we honour the past with our name.
